Protocol

A protocol is the foundation layer or set of rules that allows data sharing between computers. In the world of cryptocurrency, blockchain protocols are operating on a network of peer-to-peer computers running the protocol, where all the computers share an identical copy of the transactions of the ledger, which allows peer-to-peer value exchange without a middleman through a consensus mechanism.

Most well-known cryptocurrency protocol:

  • Hyperledger
  • Corda
  • Ethereum
  • Quorum
  • Multichain
